Portrait of Nuno Carapina

From a musical family, Nuno always had music in his life, but it wasn’t until he joined the National Youth Orchestra of Portugal that he decided to pursue a professional career. When he was 18 he began studying at Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon, where he graduated with Distinction. In 2010, Nuno was accepted to the Masters program at the Royal Academy of Music, studying under Erich Gruenberg. At the Academy, he was selected to play in a public masterclass with Maxim Vengerov and participated in many high profile performances.

After graduating with Distinction, Nuno went on to win two positions in Portuguese orchestras before moving back to the UK, where he was a member of Southbank Sinfonia’s 2013 programme. Nuno went on to enjoy a successful freelancing career, performing with many of the UK’s top orchestras before joining the first violin section at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 2015. He spent one year in Liverpool before he moved back to London to become a member of the Philharmonia. Nuno enjoys the orchestra’s busy and varied schedule, especially anything that involves getting on a plane.

In his spare time, Nuno enjoys playing and watching football. He is a keen supporter of FC Porto and the Portuguese National Team. He won’t hear a bad word spoken against José Mourinho or Cristiano Ronaldo.
