Kira Doherty No. 2 Horn

Kira grew up in a small town in Quebec where she first started learning the flute from her father at the age of 10.

Four years later, she switched to the horn and decided to pursue her musical studies at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal and then subsequently at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of Michael Thompson and Richard Watkins. Following her studies, she enjoyed a varied freelance career before accepting the post of second horn in the Philharmonia Orchestra in 2013.

Outside work, Kira spends her time mucking about with bicycles and photography (also taught to her by her father) and is currently studying part-time towards a degree in history.

The Philharmonia's No.2 Horn Chair is Endowed by Mrs Beers, Friends of the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus in memory of Ian Beers.
