The Virtual Orchestra is a partnership between Southbank Centre and the Philharmonia Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen: two free installations – Universe of Sound and 360 Experience – in the foyers of Royal Festival Hall until 2 October. Both experiences are free of charge and open to the public.

The project culminates with a special concert, presented by Marcus du Sautoy, on Saturday 1 October 2016 at 6pm.

Today The Virtual Orchestra project wraps and boy have we had a brilliant time sharing music with you! We've welcomed thousands of visitors at London's Southbank Centre to our 360 Experience and Universe of Sound installation as well as workshops and guided tours through our digital work. It's been amazing to see the smiles on people's faces as they discover the Orchestra up close and we can't wait to bring you our next project.

For now we'd like to leave you with a backstage video featuring our Principal Double Bass, Tim Gibbs, because at the end of the day it's the players that make the beautiful music that fills our installations, ears and concert halls, each and every time they perform.

Their musicality and character are second to none and make the Orchestra what it is today. This one's for you, the spectacular band.

Is there a better way to bring together months of hard work than to celebrate with a spectacular concert? Last night Esa-Pekka led a fantastic celebration of the all time greats in the symphonic repertoire with live performances of the pieces at the heart of our digital installations here at Southbank Centre in The Virtual Orchestra.

It's Sunday, the sun is shining on the Southbank and we're beginnning our final day of The Virtual Orchestra! It's been an absolute blast to welcome you all to Universe of Sound and the 360 Experience over the past ten days, as well as a fantastic concert last night to round off the project. If you haven't visited yet we hope to see you today at Southbank Centre!
