Esa-Pekka Salonen has been Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Philharmonia Orchestra since 2008, and first conducted the orchestra in 1983.
His bold programming, vigorous and precise conducting style, and warm rapport with the players make his concerts a memorable highlight of every season.
His musical menu for the coming months is typically rich and compelling. The season opens with the continuation of his series Weimar Berlin: Bittersweet Metropolis.
He returns in January to launch the orchestra’s 75th anniversary year with a concert of music composed in 1945, and the world premiere of a horn concerto commissioned by the Philharmonia from Mark Anthony Turnage.
In March 2020 he leads a recreation of Beethoven’s most famous concert, and he closes the 2019/20 season with music by Mozart and Mahler.
