Mozart Serenade for orchestra in D major, K. 250, Haffner

The young Mozart wrote his Haffner serenade as music for a party: a friend’s wedding in Salzburg. So it’s a glimpse into an 18th-century world of jubilant trumpets, spirited dance tunes and elegant romance, all drenched in summer sunshine. The Philharmonia’s Concert Master Zsolt-Tihamér Visontay leads from his violin — just as Mozart himself would have done — and launches the celebrations with a great burst of imagination and humour from Mozart’s friend Joseph Haydn.
