On 27 October 1945, Thomas Beecham conducted the first Philharmonia Orchestra concert at Kingsway Hall in London. In the 70 years since then, the Philharmonia has been under the baton of some of the finest conductors in history. Principal Conductors have included Klemperer and Muti, and more recently the Orchestra have enjoyed the leadership of Christoph von Dohnányi and Esa-Pekka Salonen. The Philharmonia has become the world’s most recorded orchestra, commissioned over 100 new works from composers such as Birtwistle and Maxwell Davies, toured extensively around the world, and established itself as the UK’s only national orchestra through its residencies across the country. In addition to its work on the concert platform, the Philharmonia continues to bring tens of thousands of children their first experience of classical music through their education projects, and reach hundreds of thousands of people worldwide through its award-winning digital projects.

Today the Philharmonia is stronger than ever, but with increasing funding pressures we rely even more on the support of donors like you to ensure the Orchestra’s future is secure, so I hope you will consider making a donation to our 70th Anniversary Appeal.

Without sheet music, the Orchestra would be unable to perform and many of our music scores are ‘well loved’ and in dire need of replenishment. The members of the Orchestra have requested that donations from this Anniversary Appeal go towards replenishing the Orchestra’s music stock for future performances. Please find below a list of the pieces of music required by Orchestra, which are priced between £100 and £1,200 each. We will acknowledge your support on the inside of the conductor’s score, and also in the Summer 2016 concert programme in London and on our 70th Anniversary website. These sets of music will be used by the Orchestra for decades to come.

If you would like to make a donation towards the 70th Anniversary Appeal, please select an amount and click on ‘Donate Now’. Donors who give above £70 will be invited to exclusive events, including a rehearsal on Tuesday 1 December at 10am with a Philharmonia rehearsal with Esa-Pekka Salonen and Lang Lang at the Royal Festival Hall with an opportunity to go backstage. Information about other events will follow your donation. We are very grateful to you for your support.

Donors will be thanked for their support with acknowledgements in the summer programme of the 2015/16 season, as well as their names appearing in the conductor's score of the new music scores for years to come and on the special 70th Anniversary wbesite. Dononrs will also have the opportunity to attend special 70th Anniversary Appeal events. Please see details below:
