Chaises Musicales

From August 19 to August 25

This piece is based on several repeating fragmentary ideas, which are passed around the orchestra creating a kind of mosaic in sound. The music has three main sections, with the second building to a peak, and the final section is a more gentle reflection on the ideas, creating a brief moment of respite before the opening appears again!

Anthony Bailey’s compositions range from solo pieces and chamber music to larger orchestral works. These have been played in major venues throughout the UK, Europe and America, and several of his works have been heard on national radio. He has also received numerous commissions.

His first opera The Black Monk (based on the Chekhov short story) was premiered to public acclaim at the Bloomsbury Theatre in 2003. The following year, Anthony’s Chamber Symphony was selected by SPNM to join the organisation's Composer Shortlist, and will receive its premiere as part of their nationwide season of events.

Since graduating from the Royal College of Music, Anthony has been in demand as both a performer and teacher. He currently plays with the Chinook quartet and teaches clarinet and saxophone at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, Watford Boys and Girls Grammar schools and London's City Lit.

Anthony's piece Reflections was performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra as part of our Composer Resource project.
