The project involves the composers being guided through the writing process by Music of Today Artistic Director Unsuk Chin, and benefitting from mentorship by Philharmonia musicians, plus seminars, masterclasses, and a ‘works in progress’ workshop. Their 10-minute long new works will each be performed at a Music of Today concert at the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday 28 June 2012, prior to a Philharmonia concert.
This scheme aims to ease the transition between education and the music profession for young composers, and offers a commission opportunity with the rare addition of professional guidance and support throughout the process.
The composers are awarded a £3,000 commission fee for the project by the Royal Philharmonic Society.
