Declassified

The Philharmonia Orchestra has been visiting Bristol to perform at Colston Hall for many years but in 2003 a formal partnership with the city was announced.  The new partnership centres on the Orchestra's artistic collaboration with the city's major arts venues: Watershed, Colston Hall and St George's Bristol. In addition to more frequent visits from the Orchestra in future, there will be an increasing number of innovative music education projects, which the Orchestra has a great deal of experience in running.

Electric December - The Bristol Partnership with the Philharmonia Orchestra

This unique collaboration to create a digital gift for Electric December is part of the Bristol Partnership with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Their musicians are working with 'I Am the Mighty Jungulator', therhomworkshop and young musicians from Remix to create a special gift of sound and music. In order to develop this, composer/sound artist Duncan Chapman will lead the young musicians through two days of interactive workshops with Philharmonia players during which they will use 'I Am the Mighty Jungulator' software to manipulate and integrate acoustic and electronic music. As part of the workshops, the young people will conduct and improvise with the Orchestra's musicians to 'declassify' the music they make. These musical creations, or 'transformations' will then be wrapped up by therhomworkshop to create an interactive animated present for Electric December. Visitors will be able to recreate the revelatory experiences of the young Remix artists during the workshops, and also to track the process of transformation interactively by playing with sounds online.
