I Am The Mighty Jungulator
I Am The Mighty Jungulator is an amazing piece of software for manipulating sounds. The picture opposite shows how a Jungulator 'pod' looks on the computer screen with one sound sample loaded and playing. A Jungulator playing musician can work with numerous pods simultaneously and switch rapidly between many different sound samples whilst constantly altering the way they play and interract. The result can be amazing textures of sounds evolving and interacting together and when mixed with live musicians you have the potential to create incredibly dynamic, interesting music to which it is still possible to dance - most unusual for cutting edge contemporary art!
Sounds complicated doesn't it?
Don't worry, it's not as difficult as you might imagine to play music with IATMJ. Behind the scenes what the computer is doing to manipulate the sounds is very innovative and programing genius, Matthew Olden who created the software should know all about that. He will be actively involved throughout the Declassified project and by 'playing the Jungulator' he will create the framework within which the other musicians will interact. But for everyone else, using the Jungulator will be a doddle and should be simply a creative musical experience rather than a computer programing lesson.
Have A Go - It's Free!
You can download a free version of IATMJ from the website www.iamthemightyjungulator.com and you can also listen to some fantastic recordings by the IATMJ band to give you an idea of just how it can be used.
If you have a little computer knowhow, you should soon be able to set up your own Jungulator and then you can go create to your heart's content, but be warned... it's very addicitive!
