Residencies

The Philharmonia Orchestra has four residencies in the UK plus many other venues in which they regularly perform.
The Royal Festival Hall at Southbank Centre is the Orchestra’s London ‘home’, where it performs around 40 concerts a year. Its residencies around Britain have provided a model of how to build audiences by providing sustained access to performances of classical music at the highest level.
It is a matter of principle that the concerts outside London should have the same artists as those it gives at the Royal Festival Hall.
It has also allowed the level of its wider involvement where it has residencies to be determined by local needs, for example in Bedford maintaining a strong presence in schools.
