Byron Fulcher
Byron Fulcher, Principal Trombone, joined the Philharmonia Orchestra in 2001, when this interview took place. He started playing at the age of nine, and went on to study with Eric Crees at the Guildhall.
Were your parents musical?
Dad played double bass in the NYO and dance bands and piano a bit.
Did you ever resent practising?
Occasionally, when the football was on the telly.
What has been the highlight of your Philharmonia Orchestra career to date?
Bruckner 8 with Maazel
What is your favourite piece of music?

What are the best and worst things about touring with the Philharmonia Orchestra?
I haven’t toured with the Philharmonia Orchestra yet, but my favourite destination would be Florida – with time off for golf!
What music do you listen to in the car?
The Best of The Eagles
What is your favourite drink?
Bitter
When do you have time off how do you relax?
I play golf
If you weren’t a musician what would you be?
I’d be a BASS trombonist! Or a Formula One racing driver…
