Endowment Fund

The Philharmonia Orchestra is always striving for financial independence and security. In recent years, thanks to the generosity of individuals, trusts, and companies, we have been able to continue making music of the highest quality on the world stage, whilst also expanding our successful Community and Education programme and supporting the musicians of tomorrow through the Philharmonia Orchestra Martin Musical Scholarship Fund.
The Orchestra has taken steps to protect its long-term future by establishing an endowment fund to enable it to face the financial challenges of the next decade with confidence and peace of mind.
The Patrons’ Circle was founded in 2002 to ensure that the Orchestra’s excellence continues for successive generations of music lovers. Members of the Patrons Circle.
The 21st century has brought new challenges, and the Philharmonia Orchestra is committed to building on its unique heritage to enable it to continue making music for the widest possible international audience for many years to come.
The Patron’s Circle, the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Endowment Fund Appeal reached its climax in June 2005 with a Gala Concert at Buckingham Palace celebrating not only the 60th Anniversary of the Philharmonia Orchestra but also the successful establishment of the £2m Endowment Fund.
The objectives of the Endowment Fund are:
-
To secure the financial future and artistic excellence of the Orchestra and provide income for investment in its artistic activities
-
To enable the Philharmonia to consolidate its position as one of the world’s leading symphony orchestras and to bring the highest quality of playing, programming and presentation to the widest international audience
-
To allow the Orchestra to maintain and expand the best roster of conductors of any British orchestra, and to continue working with the finest soloists
-
To finance the expansion of the Orchestra’s Community and Education programme and allow our work with the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund to flourish through increased financial support
-
To enable the Orchestra to attract a variety of audiences at home and abroad with a wide range of music from the eighteenth century to the present day
-
To facilitate the pursuit of artistic collaborations with ensembles, festivals and composers world-wide
"I feel it is a privilege to work with the Philharmonia Orchestra. For many years I have had a deep affection for the Philharmonia and so love their special sound, characterised by such warmth and freedom. These qualities are, I feel, a reflection of the dedication and commitment of all the players, and it is the musicians of the Philharmonia that I particularly want to help. I would like to ask you to help ensure the future of this exceptional orchestra."
