Our Friends enjoy a range of events throughout the year. From concert trips and dinners, to study days and Open Rehearsals, Friends Events offer unique opportunities to spend time with both members of the Orchestra and fellow Friends of the Philharmonia.

Open Rehearsals

We are delighted to offer our Friends behind-the-scenes access to the Philharmonia through our Open Rehearsal series. Available only to our supporters and their guests, Open Rehearsals allow the Friends to see the Philharmonia at work with some of the world's greatest conductors and soloists before they take to the stage for their performances.

23 October 2014An Introduction to the 2014/15 Season at the Royal Festival Hall

We are delighted to present to our Friends an exciting opportunity to gain an insight into the new season, as David Whelton, the Managing Director of the Philharmonia Orchestra, will introduce the 2014/15 season programme and talk through some of its highlights, such as the City of Light concert series, which explores the cultural history of Paris between 1900 and 1950.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions about the upcoming season, as well as find out more about the work that goes into planning a concert.

12 November 2014Lunchtime with Andy Smith at De Montfort Hall

We are delighted to invite the Friends of the Philharmonia to hear Andy speak about his extensive career over tea and a light lunch. Andy Smith is the orchestra’s longest standing player, having been Principal Timpanist of the Philharmonia Orchestra for over 40 years. This will be an excellent opportunity to hear Andy speak about his experiences with the orchestra and to ask him any questions you may have about his career.

14 December 2014Post Concert Christmas Reception

We warmly welcome you to our Annual Christmas Reception to thank you for your generous support throughout 2014. 

Join us for some mulled wine, minced pies and music at 5pm after this afternoon’s concert which will feature Smetana, Brahms and Tchaikovsky and will be conducted by Santtu-Matias Rouvali.

Please note that this a post-concert reception and Friends will need to purchase their concert tickets in addition.
