The Overture to Weber's opera Euryanthe was the last section of the opera to be composed. It is based on themes sung by the opera's hero Adolar; just before the development section the music is interrupted by a slow section for eight muted violins and tremolando violas, associated with the 'ghost' music for the spectral apparition throughout the opera of Adolar's sister. The Overture is conducted here by the Philharmonia's Honorary Conductor for Life, Christoph von Dohnányi.
