Can you please introduce yourself?

I'm Jean-Baptiste, I manage a company and I live in the 19th Arrondissement.

Is music in Paris lively in your opinion?

It's starting to get more lively, a while ago it was all quite romantic but now with the new generation it’s getting more and more lively.

What kind of music do you like?

I used to like music, the music of my generation, but I'm changing with the times and I can adapt. As long as it's got a rhythm it's joyful.

Do you like to dance?

Yes I like to dance, it's part of my education. Dancing is a form of escape, it's a joy really.

Music and dance…

I believe they come as a pair, they go together.

That's true. Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Just to say thanks first of all for listening to what I have to say and I know that in Paris you will learn a lot. There is great cultural diversity and in the arts as well, you can live well here especially when the sun's in the sky like today, it's great.

For the moment at least, let's keep our fingers crossed!

Exactly and it'll get better because tomorrow they've promised more beautiful sunshine.

There’s something lively about the 19th Arrondissement of Paris. Whether it’s the creative types gathering to the east of the city or the influence of the wild Buttes de Chaumont park, this is one of the most dynamic districts of Paris.

This area brings together a wide variety of cultures. Take some time to get to know the area better from a local café and observe the comings and goings of a vibrant community from beside a good cup of Parisian coffee.

During filming for the City of Light series we heard festive sounds drifting across the park. Running in pursuit of the music we found a Turkish wedding in full swing at the Town Hall. Dancing, sunshine and music filled the air – it was the perfect example of the melting pot that defines Parisian music. Explore our interactive map of Paris to experience a city alive with music.
