Michael Petrov CELLO

Born in Bulgaria in 1990, Michael Petrov studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and, since 2009 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Louise Hopkins. 

In 2011 he won 1st Prize in the International Suggia Competition in Porto and in 2012 2nd Prize in the International Brahms Competition in Austria.

Concert highlights include recitals at the Kronberg and Los Angeles Cello Festivals and in 2012 he performed at Carnegie Hall in the Weill Recital Hall.  As a soloist he has performed Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante at the Barbican conducted by Gianandrea Noseda and appeared with the London Mozart Players and Munich Chamber Orchestra.  

Engagements this season include a recital at Wigmore Hall and performances of the Dvorák Concerto with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations with the English Chamber Orchestra.   During the 2014/15 season Michael has been selected as the European Concert Halls Organisation Rising Star representing the UK.   He was selected for representation by Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) in 2013.
