Martin Helmchen has made impressive debuts with Berlin Philharmonic and Herbert Blomstedt, Vienna Philharmonic and Valery Gergiev, London Philharmonic with Vladimir Jurowski and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Andris Nelsons. In the USA he made his concerto debut with Christoph von Dohnányi at the Tanglewood Festival with Boston Symphony.

In 2013/14 Martin Helmchen makes important USA debuts with Cleveland Orchestra conducted by David Afkham, San Francisco Symphony with Marek Janowski and Dallas Symphony Orchestra with Jaap van Sweden.   In Europe Martin returns to The Philhamonia and Orchestra de Paris with Christoph von Dohnányi, Flanders Philharmonic and Frankfurt Radio orchestras with Philippe Herreweghe, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich with David Zinman, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with Ed Gardner, Gurzenich Orchestra Cologne and Vladimir Jurowski. He is soloist with the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo with Dima Slobodeniouk.

In recital he performs in London, Berlin, Munich and makes his recital debut in Washington DC at the Kennedy Center. Helmchen performs in Berlin, Paris, Bruges and Winterthur with his wife and cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker.

Recording exclusively for PentaTone, Helmchen has recorded discs of Mozart, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Dvorak concerti. He has recorded Schubert duos with Julia Fischer and his first solo recording of Schubert works won an ECHO Award in 2009. 2013/14 anticipates the release of his second Mozart concerti disc with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra led by Gordan Nikolic.

A former student of Galina Iwanzowa in Berlin, Martin Helmchen still receives tutelage from Arie Vardie at the Hochschule für Musik, Hannover and with William Grant Naboré from the „Klavierakademie Comer See“. He won the „2001 Clara Haskil Competition” and was a Fellow of the Borletti-Buitoni-Trust in 2005 and the “Credit Suisse Young Artist” in 2006 culminating with his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under Valery Gergiev at the Lucerne Festival. Between 2005 and 2007 Martin Helmchen was a soloist on the “BBC New Generation Artists” scheme.
