In July 2013, she was invited to attend the Verbier Festival Academy, Switzerland, with a full scholarship and won the APCAV prize at the Festival.
As the youngest competitor in the 11th Lionel Tertis International Viola Festival and Competition (up to the age of 30) in Port Erin, on the Isle of Man, in March 2013, 15-year-old Ziyu won the First Prize which set a new record for the youngest winner. In the competition, Miss Shen also gave the world première of the Six Sorano Variants by renowned composer Peter Maxwell Davies, which was the commissioned set work for the 2013 competition.
In November 2012, Miss Shen gave a concert in Washington DC. In July 2012, her chamber group won the First Place in the Chamber Music Competition at the Morningside Music Bridge, held in Canada. In May 2012, she gave the world première of the only selected Chinese work Fantasia for Viola and Orchestra by the composer Mengdong Xu at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Modern Music Festival, with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. In March 2012, Miss Shen won First Viola Prize at the Johansen International Competition for Young String Players, held in Washington DC.
Miss Shen has been given many master classes by renowned violists including Yuri Bashmet, Nobuko Imai, Antoine Tamestit and Roberto Diaz. She also performed the Hindemith Der Schwanendreher with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Canada. With the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, she played the solo part in Berlioz’s Harold in Italy.
Miss Shen began to play the violin when she was four and transferred to playing viola in 2009 with Mr. Sheng Li at the Music Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She has been awarded scholarships from her school every year. In 2013, she also won the Rector Scholarship and also the Arts Talented Scholarship of Shanghai.
