Michael Turner has been with the Philharmonia Orchestra since 1986. He began playing the violin at 8 and switched to viola at the age of 18. He studied at the Royal College of Music and Cambridge University. After his first job with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra he took a year out to study the viola with Bruno Giuranna in Germany before joining the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1980.
