Carsten Williams was born in Ealing in 1969. After studying at the RCM junior dep. he accepted a place at the Guildhall School of Music to study with Jeff Bryant and Tony Chidell. During this time he played with the ECYO.

In 1992 he took up a position as 3rd horn with the ENO orchestra and in 2004 he changed to co-principle horn.

In December 2007 he joined the Philharmonia Orchestra.

Having lived and worked in London all his life he believes the city would be greatly improved by the addition of a snow-capped Alp somewhere in the middle.

Carsten's grandad played horn under Furtwengler with the BPO for 28 years. He then moved to the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, he retired in 1965 and eventually gave the young Carsten his wrecked instrument.
