Hugh Webb, born in 1965 in London, has studied harp with Renata Scheffel-Stein, Sioned Williams and Susan Drake. He has worked extensively in the contemporary music field and Javier Alvarez, Robert Keely and Ian Dearden have all written solo works for him with funding from the Arts Council of England. CD recordings include Bax’s Concerto for Flute, Oboe, Harp and String Quartet with the Academy of St Martin’s Chamber Ensemble (Chandos), a collection of French music for flute and harp, Villa Lobos’ Quartet (Clarinet Classics) and Bax’s Fantasy Sonata (Koch International) and recital disks with Fiona Cross and Judith Hall. He has also recorded a CD of French medieval lays with the early music group, Joglaresa. His playing is featured on two CDs of the complete chamber music with harp by Louis Spohr.
Hugh Webb is active in the commercial world of television, film and popular music, and has composed a children’s show which toured very successfully in 1998. He has been Joint Principal Harp of the Philharmonia Orchestra since 2001.
