Adrián Varela

Violinist and composer Adrián Varela is the Philharmonia Orchestra's only South American member. He joined in 2002 after studying at the Royal Academy of Music. Prior to that he studied in North and South America.

Adrián Varela joined the Philharmonia Orchestra first violins, and became the youngest-ever leader of the National Symphony Orchestra of Uruguay, in 2002. Adrián took up the violin in Detroit, later studying in Uruguay, Argentina and finally in London, where he obtained a bunch of diplomas from the Royal Academy of Music.

Adrián's passion for Latin and Rock as well as classical music has led to a successful parallel career as composer and performer. Performance credits include artists ranging from Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Philharmonia Orchestra to South American rock legends Mona Lisa.
