Neil Tarlton has been Principal Bass of the Philharmonia Orchestra since 1990. Neil is an expert in all aspects of modern bass virtuoso technique and works with the London Sinfonietta specialising in avant garde solo bass works. He has recently published a treatise covering all aspects of double bass bowing technique, the first book of its kind.

Neil Tarlton is professor of double bass at the Royal College of Music.

The Philharmonia's Principal Bass's Chair is endowed by The Zvi and Ofra Meitar Family Fund.
