Graham Mitchell, Double Bass, has been with the Philharmonia Orchestra since 1999. He began playing piano and violin at the age of six, and took up the double bass at the age of 15, inspired by a performance by Duncan McTier, who was to become his teacher at the Royal Northern College of Music.
On McTier’s recommendation, he studied with Corin Long between the ages of 16 and 18. An award from the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund (administered by the Philharmonia Orchestra) enabled Graham to take postgraduate studies in London, which then led to his position in the Philharmonia Orchestra through the string training scheme. Graham teaches regularly as Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
