Joe Melvin DOUBLE BASS

Joe Melvin was born in London and began playing the double bass at the early age of eight. He was taught by Caroline Emery at the Royal College of Music Junior Department up to the age of eighteen. He was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain from 2001-2004 during which he played as Principal Bass.

Joe was accepted as a scholarship student into the Royal Academy of Music for both Undergraduate and Masters degrees and he studied for five years with Duncan McTier, Corin Long and Graham Mitchell.

He has worked professionally with many of the country’s top orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra and the John Wilson Orchestra.

Joe joined the Philharmonia Orchestra in April 2013.
