Simon Oliver DOUBLE BASS

Simon Oliver was born in 1968 in Portsmouth. He studied Piano and Double Bass at Peter Symonds College in Winchester and then at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Simon joined the Philharmonia as a member of the bass section in late 1992 and has always felt privileged to be working with such amazing musicians, conductors and behind the scenes people that make up this Orchestra. As well as playing the Double Bass, Simon has a keen interest in singing and has performed recitals in music club venues in the UK and overseas. He has also sung in education concerts with the Philharmonia and once had the extraordinary experience of dressing up as the laughing policeman in order to do so.

In December 2010 Simon became Deputy Chairman of the Philharmonia Orchestra and in December 2011 he was appointed Chairman.
