Mark Calder No. 2 Trumpet

Mark Calder was born in Inverness, and with his parents both being music teachers he has always been surrounded by music.

Starting to play the trumpet at the tender age of nine, he was in Bathgate and Whitburn Brass Band right up until he went to College. Mark studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, under Bob Jenner, Trevor Green and John Gracie, and this was then followed by a post-graduate year at the National Centre of Orchestra Studies in London.

For the first thirteen years of his career Mark held the position of First Trumpet with both the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and also the Bournemouth Sinfonietta. Having also extensive freelance experience with most British orchestras, he joined the Philharmonia Orchestra as Second Trumpet in 1999.

Mark particularly enjoys touring with the Orchestra, especially Japan and Germany (for the beer!). Mark is married, with two children, and holidays in Scotland each summer.
