Jukka-Pekka Saraste has established himself as one of the exceptional conductors of his generation, demonstrating considerable musical depth and integrity. Having brought the music of Scandinavian composers such as Kaja Saariaho, Magnus Lindberg and Esa-Pekka Salonen to greater prominence in the active concert repertoire, Mr. Saraste also has a strong affinity with the sound and style of late Romantic music.
Recent engagements have included the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan, the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam, the Chicago Symphony, the Orchestre National de France and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In the 2005 Salzburg Festival, Mr Saraste conducted the Staatskapelle Dresden.
Future plans include concerts with the Munich Philharmonic, the WDR Orchestra Cologne, Swedish Radio Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, and European tours with the Oslo Philharmonic.
His discography most notably includes the complete symphonies of Sibelius and Nielsen with the Finnish Radio Orchestra as well as works by Bartók, Dutilleux, Mussorgsky and Prokofiev with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
