Juraj Valčuha

Chief Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Torino since 2009. He studied composition and conducting in Bratislava, St-Petersburg with Ilya Musin and Paris.

2005 saw his debut with Orchestre National de France. In the following seasons, he has regularly conducted the Philharmonia London, Munich and Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestras, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Swedish Radio Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Orchestre de Paris  In the US he has made debuts  with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, NSO Washington.

In 2011-12 he debuted with the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam,  Berlin Philharmonic, Cincinnati and Boston Symphony. With his RAI Orchestra he made a tour primarily to the Musikverein Vienna and the Philharmonie in Berlin and to the Abu Dhabi Classics with soloist Yo-Yo Ma.

2012-13 mark his debuts with the San Francisco Symphony,  New York Philharmonic, Filarmonica della Scala in Milan, Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome, National Arts Centre Ottawa. He also led opera productions of Puccini´s Madama Butterfly as well as Prokofiev´s The Love for Three Oranges in Florence.

2014/2015  brings him on a Europe Tour with Orchestra della RAI to Munich, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Zurich and Basle. He returns to the San Francisco, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and National Symphony Orchestras, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Debuts with St Louis Symphony,  Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal as well as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin.  In the Opera he conducts Puccini´s Turandot at Teatro San Carlo Napoli and at the Rome Opera,  and Janacek´s Jenufa at Teatro Comunale Bologna.

The current season 2015/2016 marks his return to the New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh and San Francisco Symphony, debut with the Minnesota Orchestra. In Europe he joins the Munich Philharmonic, Swedish Radio and NDR Hamburg

orchestras, Czech Philharmonic, Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome, as well as Maggio Musicale in Florence. He´s touring Europe with the Bamberg Symphony as well as with the Santa Cecilia Rome orchestras and conducts Wagner´s Parsifal at the Budapest Opera.

Highlights of the season 2016/2017 will be his debut with the Chicago Symphony,  conducting returns to the NSO Washington, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Montreal and Minnesota orchestras, Philharmonia Orchestra in London and at the Bratislava Festival, Orchestre de Paris and Orchestre National de France. In the opera he will conduct Tchaikovsky´s Pique Dame in Florence, Strauss´Elektra in Napoli and Britten´s Peter Grimes in Bologna.
