Since moving from Scotland he has held assistant organist positions at Croydon Parish Church (1986-88) and the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula within HM Tower of London (1988-92) where he appeared often as a solo recitalist in the City of London Festival and played for many BBC broadcasts. In 1992 he was appointed organist of Croydon Parish Church and in January 1998 was invited to become Musical Director of the Croydon Bach Choir. In March 2000 he left Croydon Parish Church to take up the post of Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral and Artistic Director of the Chelmsford Cathedral Festival. In 2010 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Arts from Anglia Ruskin University for his work in the field of Arts in Essex. After twelve years as Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral and eight years Musical Director the Chelmsford Singers, he moved to Worcester in Easter 2012.
As a professional singer he has toured in over twenty-five countries on five continents and has been involved in over fifty recording projects, including the award winning "Venetian Coronation" with The Gabrieli Consort, The Tallis Scholars - "Live in Oxford" and "Vespers from Venice" with The Monteverdi Choir. As a composer he is published by Boosey & Hawkes and RSCM publications and was on the editorial committee for the Canterbury Press hymn book, Sing Praise. Peter is a Fellow of theRoyal College of Organists, an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music and, until recently, worked frequently as a singer and occasional conductor with The King's Consort. He also holds an Honorary Fellowship of the Guild of Church Musicians.
