Stig Andersen is a member of the Royal Theatre Copenhagen, where he successively sang the parts of the lyric and lirico spinto before becoming one of the most demanded heroic tenors for the Wagner repertory.

He sang Lohengrin in Copenhagen, Zurich, Berlin and Tokyo; Peter Grimes in Copenhagen and Dresden; Fidelio in Copenhagen, at the Bregenz Festival, in Zurich and Munich; the title role in Otello in Copenhagen, the title role in Tannhäuser in Copenhagen, Chemnitz, Berlin, Munich and Houston; ‘Erik’ (Der fliegende Holländer) in Copenhagen, ‘Siegmund’ (Die Walküre) in Århus, Chicago, Torino, Berlin, Munich, Copenhagen and Dresden; the title role in Siegfried in Århus, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Torino, Helsinki, Amsterdam, London, New York, Geneva, Berlin, Munich, Madrid, Dortmund, Copenhagen and Esbjerg; ‘Siegfried’ (Götterdämmerung) in Århus, Torino, London, New York, Helsinki, Mannheim, Berlin, Geneva, Munich and Dortmund; ‘Albrecht’ (Mathis der Maler) in London, ‘Stolzing’ (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) in Copenhagen, Strasbourg and Munich; Parsifal in Cologne, Zurich, Tokyo, Berlin  and London; Tristan und Isolde in Copenhagen, Berlin, Mannheim, Houston, Prague, Bonn, Trondheim, Berlin, Rome; ‘Herodes’ (Salome) in Århus and Copenhagen, ‘Hermann’ (Pique Dame) in Copenhagen, and ‘King of Naples’ (The Tempest by Thomas Adès) in Copenhagen.

He has worked with conductors including Christian Arming, Daniel Barenboim, Myun-Whun Chung, James Conlon, Mark Elder, Christoph Eschenbach, Theodor Guschlbauer, Hartmut Haenchen, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Bernard Haitink, Eliahu Inbal, Marek Janowski, Neeme Järvi, Armin Jordan, Jiri Kout, James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Zubin Mehta, Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Michael Schønwandt, Leif Segerstam, Sir Georg Solti, and Franz Welser-Möst.

As a concert singer he has also performed Die Jahreszeiten by Haydn, Rinaldo by Brahms, Das Lied von der Erde and Symphony No. 8 by Mahler, Das Buch mit den sieben Siegeln by Schmidt, and Gurrelieder by Schoenberg.

Recordings include Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln conducted by Franz Welser-Möst, Brahms’ Rinaldo, C. E. F. Weyses Sovedrikken, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung with De Nederlandse Opera conducted by Hartmut Haenchen on CD, as well as many broadcast and several tv recordings. Stig Andersen has been awarded the title of ‘Kammersänger’ of the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen.
