In 1988, when the pianist performed the Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus in Paris, the composer congratulated him with these words: “Thanks to Roger Muraro for his absolutely sublime complete performance of this very difficult work! With my fullest admiration for his dazzling technique, mastery, his sound qualities, emotion and, I might dare say, his Faith!…”.
It is those qualities described by Olivier Messiaen that enable Roger Muraro to play, with moving sincerity, composers whose music leaves a large part to the imagination, to the world of childhood and dreams, including Schumann, Mozart, and Ravel, whose complete works for piano solo and with orchestra have aroused considerable interest from numerous concert societies, both in France and abroad.
This pianist of Italian origin has collaborated with leading conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Pinchas Steinberg, Marek Janowski, Valery Gergiev, Yuri Ahronovitch, Okko Kamu, Marc Soustrot, Myung-Whun Chung, Kent Nagano, David Robertson, Pascal Rophé, Sylvain Cambreling, and Thierry Fischer, and with prestigious orchestras including the Philharmonics of Berlin and Vienna, the Gewandhaus of Leipzig, the Orchestre National de France, the Residentie Orkester of The Hague, The Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonique de Radio-France, the RSO of Berlin, the Orchestra of the RAI, the State Orchestra of the ex-USSR, the Perth Philharmonic, the Münchner Philharmoniker, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, RSO Wien, and the BBC Wales Orchestra.
His concerts the world over have been hailed by critics who hear in him an artist of purity and a moving colourist of impressive virtuosity. In February 2001 Roger Muraro won the Victoires de la Musique award in the “Instrumental Soloist of the Year” category. During the 2006/07 season, Roger Muraro gave many concerts in France (recitals and with orchestra) with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France and also in Cardiff (BBC Wales Orchestra), two tours in Japan (December 2006 with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra; February 2007: recitals), Portugal, several concerts and recordings with the SWR Sinfonierochester Baden-Baden und Freiburg (Freiburg, Landau, Berlin).
