A physique that enables her to look the part and a femininity rarely seen on the operatic stage add to the profile of this artist who knows how to create real "music theater". She started her vocal studies at the Conservatorio di Musica in Cagliari and perfected her technique with R. Scotto. Her vast repertoire includes roles such as Orfeo, Norma, Lucrezia Borgia, Aida, Alzira, Giovanna D’Arco, Carmen, La Wally, Fedora, Manon Lescaut, Tosca, Suor Angelica, Madama Butterfly, Turandot, and the principale soprano roles in Il Turco in Italia, Don Giovanni, La clemenza di Tito, Nabucco, Macbeth, I Vespri siciliani, Don Carlo, Un ballo in maschera, Il Trovatore, Falstaff, Mefistofele, La Fanciulla del West, Il Tabarro, Andrea Chénier, Cavalleria rusticana. Widely admired for both her musical and dramatic talent, she performs at the most important opera houses all over the world such as Barcelona, Berlin Bologna, Brussels, Cagliari, Florence Genoa, Hamburg, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Palermo, Parma, Oslo, San Diego, Seoul, Shanghai, Tokyo, Turin, Venice, Verona, Vienna, Washington, Zurich. She collaborated with famous directors such as P Stein, L Ronconi, R De Simone, D Pountney, R Carsen, A Homoki, G Vick, G Krämer, G Asagaroff and conductors such as Z Metha, R Muti, M Plasson, D Hardng, R Chailly, C Thielemann and F Welser-Möst, N Luisotti, K Nagano and D Oren.

Recently Paoletta Marrocu made her début in The Merry Widow, and Poliuto. In 2011 she performed the principle soprano role of the new opera Senso by Marco Tutino at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and performed as Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana in a new production at the Gran Liceu de Barcelona. Further performances will bring her to the Hamburgische Staatsoper as Tosca and Lady Macbeth and for a Nabucco Gala at the Auckland Town Hall in New Zealand.

In 1998, she was named "Artist for Peace" by the UNESCO. Paoletta Marrocu featured in various CDs such as Cavalleria rusticana for DECCA, Il Teseo Riconosciuto, Il Turco in Italia, Messa e Magnificat, Aids Gala for RCA and recently Bellini’s Due Messe Catanesi for Nuova Era, and DVDs such as Macbeth for TDK with Thomas Hampson and Cavalleria rusticana for Arthaus Musik with José Cura both from the Opernhaus in Zurich, Pizzetti’s Assassinio nella Cattedrale for DECCA (Diapason d’Or 2008), Il Tabarro for Hardy Classics from La Scala in Milan.
