Ogawa is also renowned as a recitalist and chamber musician, and in February 2008 made her solo recital debut at Suntory Hall, Japan. She has worked with groups such as the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Ensemble. In 2001 Noriko Ogawa established a piano duo with Kathryn Stott. She has recently completed a chamber tour in Japan with Evelyn Glennie which saw the première of a new work for two pianos and percussion by Yoshihiro Kanno. Ogawa and Stott also perform the new double concerto for two pianos Circuit by Graham Fitkin, which will be released by BIS in early 2009. In 2008-09 Ogawa will perform premières including a concerto written for her by Dai Fujikura with the Philharmonia Orchestra and a solo work for Nambu bell and piano by Kanno, Hikari-no-Ryushi (A Particle of Light).
Noriko Ogawa is an exclusive recording artist for BIS Records. Her discography includes Toru Takemitsu Riverrun (awarded Editor’s Choice in Gramophone Magazine) and Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition (Critics’ Choice in BBC Music Magazine). Ogawa’s ongoing series with BIS presents the complete solo works for piano by Debussy, which has already won critical acclaim from Gramophone Magazine and BBC Radio 3.
Noriko Ogawa continues to work extensively in Japan and has received the Japanese Ministry of Education’s Art Prize in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the global cultural profile of Japan and she has also been awarded the Okura Prize. Since 2004 Ogawa has acted as artistic advisor for the MUZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall; she also writes for the music press and has recently released her first book Together with the Piano in Japan to great success. Noriko will appear on TV in autumn 2008 presenting the BBC Worldwide television programme, Visionaries, on Takemitsu.
