From its creation the Chorus, under the direction of eminent musicians including John Alldis, Arthur Oldham, Richard Hickox, and since 1990 Stephen Westrop, has continued to expand its wide repertoire of music including the commissioning of new works: John Tavener's The Myrrh Bearer, for chorus, viola and percussion, was premièred in October 1994, with Yuri Bashmet as viola soloist. In October 1995 Richard Hickox conducted the world première of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' The Three Kings, a Christmas cantata to a text by George Mackay Brown.

At the heart of the Chorus's repertoire are the great twentieth century choral classics: Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius, Walton's Belshazzar's Feast, Mahler's Second, Third and Eighth Symphonies, Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé, Vaughan Williams's A Sea Symphony, Britten's War Requiem and Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. The Chorus is also closely identified with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Berlioz' Requiem and Te Deum, Brahms's Requiem, Mozart's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah and Verdi's Requiem.

An extensive discography of over 90 recordings of the London Symphony Chorus includes Britten's War Requiem with the LSO conducted by Richard Hickox, which received the Grand Prix du Disque and the 1992 Gramophone Magazine's 'Best Music Recording' award. The recording of Bernstein's Candide, with the LSO and the composer conducting, received a Grammy award as did the recording of Peter Grimes made with the LSO and Richard Hickox in 1997.

In recent years the LSC has performed a wide range of music, including Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette, JanáÄÂ?ek's Glagolitic Mass, Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 2, 3 and 8, Verdi's Four Sacred Pieces and Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Bruckner's Requiem, Te Deum and E Minor Mass, Walton's Belshazzar's Feast, Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé and L'enfant et les Sortilèges, Vaughan Williams's A Sea Symphony, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Mozart's Requiem, Mascagni's Cavelleria Rusticana, Berlioz's Damnation of Faust, and worked with conductors including Sir Colin Davis, André Previn, Michael Tilson Thomas, Richard Hickox, Kent Nagano, Dmitri Kitaenko and Grant Llewellyn.
