In July 2003 he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival with Egon Wellesz’ Die Bakchantinnen and Verdi’s Don Carlo. At the Hamburg State Opera he made his debut performance in March 2006 with Eötvös´ Tri Sestri. In June 2006 he sang at the Teatro Real in Madrid in Poulencs’ Dialogues des Carmélites. In autumn he made his debut in Athens in Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero - a production by Christopher Alden. In the season 2007/2008 Lauri Vasar performed Minotauros in the world premiere of Henze’s Phaedra at the Berlin State Opera with more performances following at the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels, at the Theater an der Wien, the Alte Oper Frankfurt and at the Holland Festival. In 2007/2008 he debuted at the Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona and in Tokyo. In January 2008 as well as January 2009 he sang the renewals of Phaedra/Minotauros at the Berlin State Opera and in the beginning of 2009 Faust/Bal (world premiere/title role) at the Teatro Real Madrid. The same year at the Hamburg State Opera he interpreted Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutti, Marcello/Boheme, Belcore/Elisir d’amore and Papageno/Zauberflöte. At the beginning of 2010 Lauri Vasar could be seen in Hamburg in the title role of Don Giovanni, in March he celebrated a huge success in Amsterdam with the title role in a new production of Il prigioniero. Later in Hamburg he performed Chow Anschtschina(revival)/Schaklowitij, Nozze di Figaro/Conte, Carmen/Escamillo, Elisir d’amore /Belcore and Zauberflöte /Papageno. In December he returned to Brussels with LA BOHÈME/Schaunard (new production).

During the season 10/11 in Hamburg he performed the title role in Eugen Onegin for the first time. Furthermore he gave his debut as Billy Budd at Deutsche Oper am Rhein and appeared in Freischutz in Barcelona in May 2011 (by Peter Konwitschny). With huge success, he is presently performing his role debut as Kovalyov in Dmitri Shostakovich’s The Nose under the stage direction of Peter Stein (new production).

Present and future plans include among others:

Autumn 2011, new production Die Nase in Zurich (directed by Peter Stein) Spring 2012 concert Il Prigioniero (title role) in Zurich Budapest Festival Tannhäuser (debute as Wolfram)

And many new roles in Hamburg, a.o. as King Lear, Manon Lescaut /Lescaut, Pique Dame /Jeletzki.

For his Billy Budd in the new production in Dusseldorf he is nominated for the German Theatre Award Faust as best singing performer of the year 2011.
