Kevin Zhu

Kevin Zhu, born in Nov. 2000, is in seventh grade at Lawson Middle School in California, USA. He began studying violin at age three and a half, and is currently a scholarship student in the San Francisco Conservatory of Music preparatory division under Li Lin.

Kevin has won numerous first prize including Chinese Music Teachers Association of Northern California Youth Music Competition in 2006 and 2009, Pacific Musical Society Competition in 2010, and Yehudi Menuhin-Helen Dowling Competition in 2011. He was also selected to participate in 2011 Steinway Society Young Artist Concert, 2011 Music@Menlo Chamber Music Program, and perform on National Public Radio’s “From the Top” program in 2012.

At the age of 11, Kevin won first prize in the Junior Division of the 2012 Menuhin International Violin Competition in Beijing - became the youngest ever winner in the 29-year history of the competition. He was also awarded the Composers Prize for best performance of the new Chinese work.

Kevin plays a fine old Italian violin generously on loan from Florian Leonhard Fine Violins.
