Jonathan studied at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Hannah Roberts and in July 2010 graduated with a first class Honours degree. During this period Jonathan was guided by Ralph Kirshbaum, both at the RNCM and the London Master Classes. He now studies at the New England Conservatory pursuing a Master of Music degree with Laurence Lesser and where he is the Charlotte F. Rabb Presidential Scholar. Jonathan’s studies have been complemented by additional seminars with Steven Isserlis, Gary Hoffman, Timothy Eddy, Frans Helmerson and Bernard Greenhouse.

Jonathan has won numerous awards for his playing from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, Hattori Foundation, Musicians Benevolent Fund and the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Martin Musical Scholarship Fund. He is pleased to participate in the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme. Jonathan plays a cello made in c. 1780 by John Betts which is kindly on loan to him by the Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute.
