The Bach Choir has some 220 active members, talented singers from all walks of life, all of whom are committed to a challenging schedule of up to twenty concerts in a season, as well as recordings, overseas tours and special engagements. The Choir has been invited to perform in Sydney and Melbourne in 2008, and will make a return visit to Dresden in the Autumn of 2007 to perform Haydn’s The Creation, following its sell-out performances of Handel’s Messiah in the city’s beautifully restored Frauenkirche in December 2005.

David Hill has been Musical Director of The Bach Choir since 1998, and has earned enormous respect for his musical acumen and high standards. Under his direction the Choir has extended its repertoire with new and challenging works, including frequent new commissions. In May 2005 the Choir gave the world premiere of Diana Burrell’s And so the night became, and it has commissioned a new work from the Swiss composer, Carl Rütti, for performance early in 2008. The Bach Choir’s organist and accompanist is Jane Watts, who is an acclaimed recital and recording artist.

The Bach Choir has many outstanding recordings to its name. The Choir has recently released a disc of music by Howells for Naxos; as well as Howells’ masterpiece, Hymnus Paradisi, this includes the premiere recording of a newly rediscovered work, Sir Patrick Spens. The Choir also regularly undertakes film score work, featuring prominently on the soundtracks of Ridley Scott’s crusades epic Kingdom of Heaven, Disney’s Chronicles of Narnia, and the new film, Shrek 3.

The Bach Choir begins the 2007-08 season with a performance of Haydn’s The Creation with the Philharmonia Orchestra in Westminster Cathedral on Friday 9 November 2007. Other plans for 2007-08 include Bach’s St Matthew Passion in the newly-refurbished Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 9 March 2008, as well as concerts in the Cadogan Hall, Winchester Cathedral and Douai Abbey.
