The evening took the form of a re-imagining of a musical evening during Queen Victoria’s reign when Wagner was a guest at the castle. Celebrated actors Victoria Hamilton and Alex Jennings led the proceedings as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and the Orchestra, under Edward Gardner, performed an all-Wagner programme with Bryn Terfel including extracts from Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Tannhäuser, Der Ring des Nibelungen and Lohengrin.

David Whelton, Philharmonia Orchestra Managing Director, commented:

"It was an enormous privilege for the Philharmonia Orchestra to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of HRH The Prince of Wales’s Patronage in this way. We are exceptionally fortunate to have benefitted from his outstanding and inspirational support over so many years."

The evening also marked the culmination of the Philharmonia Orchestra’s 65th Anniversary Appeal.
