Carl Davis: Heroines in Music
Carl Davis’s latest release is a selection of some of his most well-known music written for film and TV dramas with a focus on a selection starring women in leading roles, performed by the Philharmonia. The disc features Carl’s music for popular period dramas including the BBC’s 1995 Pride and Prejudice mini-series, recent dramas Cranford and The Return to Cranford and the 1981 film The French Lieutenant’s Woman starring Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons. James Ehnes: Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto
During a series of concerts in January 2010 with violinist James Ehnes and the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Conductor Laureate Vladimir Ashkenazy, record label Onyx recorded Ehnes’s performance of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto at the Butterworth Hall, Warwick Arts Centre. This fantastic live performance features alongside Mendelssohn’s Octet, played by Ehnes with members of the Seattle Chamber Music Society. David Fray: Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 22 & 25
Pianist David Fray recorded these two Mozart piano concerti with the Philharmonia at Abbey Road Studios in August 2010 and the disc was released on EMI/Virgin Classics in November. With excellent reviews from the press for the disc, you can see Fray perform Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 22 live with the Orchestra during our 2011/12 season.
