Former Philharmonia Chairman and long-time member of the clarinet section Basil Tschaikov recalls three decades of the Orchestra from the eras of Karajan to Muti, included in his new book The Music Goes Round and Around, which is available this month from any reputable bookseller, Amazon and other Internet book sites.

Basil (Nick) Tschaikov played with the Philharmonia Orchestra from 1948 to 1979, becoming a full time member of the clarinet section in 1955, and serving as the Orchestra's Chairman from 1974 to 1979, when he left the Orchestra to take up the position of Director of the National Centre for Orchestral Studies.  In this audio feature, specially made for the Philharmonia, he recalls his years with the orchestra, which are included, plus very much more about the Philharmonia, in his new book The Music Goes Round and Around, presenting a widely in-depth view from the inside of the many technological developments that have affected both the performance of music and audiences during the past century.

EMI Classics and Testament Records have very kindly agreed that short extracts from some of their Philharmonia recordings can be included to illustrate some of Basil Tschaikov's memories.

You can download a PDF of the press release here
