The second part of the Philharmonia’s celebration of the centenary of Olivier Messiaen’s birth continues at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall on 16, 21 and 23 October. The programmes include Messiaen’s largest orchestral work, La Transfiguration de Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ; Chronochromie; Réveil des oiseaux and Poèmes pour Mi, all works that illuminate Messiaen’s lifelong passions of love, nature and the divine.
The first two discs from the Philharmonia's new CD label have just been released: live recordings from Philharmonia concerts at Southbank Centre from 2006/7 of Brahms’s 2nd and 4th symphonies (conducted by Christoph von Dohnányi) and Schubert’s 9th Symphony, the Great C Major. The CDs are available by mail order from the Philharmonia Online Shop for £12 each (+ £1 P&P within the UK) or by phone from our box office (0800 652 6717).
