MAHLER CYCLE 2011
German tenor Stefan Vinke studied at the Music Academy of Cologne and was immediately engaged by the Staatstheater Karlsruhe in Germany. In 1996, he received a scholarship from the Stipendiat der Richard- Wagner- Stipendienstiftung Bayreuth.
From 1999 to 2005, Stefan Vinke was engaged to sing the young heroic-tenor roles at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, in addition to other leading tenor roles. 2003 saw his very successful US début with the Opera Company of Philadelphia as Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos). In 2003/04 he made several important débuts in new productions at the Staatstheater Saarbrücken (including the title role in Andrea Chenier) and Nationaltheater Mannheim. In 2004, he sang Tristan at Opera Halle, directed by Rene Kollo; Siegfried and Florestan (Fidelio) for his Cologne Opera début; and made his début at Semper Opera Dresden in Arabella. In 2005/06, he was engaged by Leipzig Opera to sing the leading tenor roles in all their Wagner productions. In 2007 he made his début at the Grand Théâtre de Genève as Bacchus, going on to sing Max (Der Freischütz) and Lohengrin at Staatstheater Nürnberg and a very successful Siegfried with Jeffrey Tate at La Fenice, Venice.
In the summer of 2008, he sang his first Tannhäuser at the Eutiner Festival, followed by Siegfried with GrahamVick at the Teatro São Carlos, Lisbon. In 2009, he opened the season at La Fenice as Paul (Die Tote Stadt) and, later that year, he sang his first Siegfried in Götterdämmerung (also at La Fenice) before completing the Ring Cycle in Lisbon.
In 2010, after singing Tristan in Cologne and Lohengrin in both Stuttgart and Leipzig, Stefan Vinke undertook Siegfried in the entire Ring Cycle in Cologne and Berlin, and also in Götterdämmerung at the Salzburg Easter Festival under Sir Simon Rattle. He completed his Wagner repertoire with Walther von Stolzing (DieMeistersinger von Nürnberg) in Leipzig and also made his début at the Opera Bastille, Paris as Bacchus. Recent and future plans include Siegfried in productions of the Ring Cycle in London, Seattle and Shanghai; Tristan in Hong Kong; Alviano (Die Gezeichneten) in Cologne and Jim Mahony (Aufstieg und Fall der StadtMahagonny) in Leipzig. Stefan Vinke is also in demand as a concert singer in a wide-ranging repertoire.
