MusicQuest is a schools concert project devised and run by the Philharmonia in partnership with The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts. A concert at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, in 2012 introduced more than 1,400 children to orchestral music via an entertaining programme of specially selected excerpts.

MusicQuest began with a training day. Teachers were introduced to the works their classes would see and hear performed in the concert, and tried out a series of related classroom music exercises. They then attended a concert delivered by the full orchestra.  A capacity audience of local primary school children filled St David’s Hall, many visiting the venue for the first time, and their excitement and enjoyment was evident.

Thomas MacAndrew, Project Manager for Children & the Arts commented: "It was fantastic to see so many children engaging with the Philharmonia Orchestra, many of whom had never heard an orchestra perform live before. When the children stood up to sing the participation piece the volume was incredible. They were so confident and enthused, it was obvious that they were having an amazing time."

Fundraising and planning for a MusicQuest tour is underway.

MusicQuest in Cardiff was sponsored by The Classic FM Foundation.
