Music Hub Projects: Philharmonia Brass
In 2015/16, the Philharmonia Orchestra delivered three distinct brass projects, first with London music hub partners Hounslow Music Service and Wandsworth Schools’ Music, secondly with Essex Music Hub and thirdly with Gloucestershire Music Hub.
Members of the Philharmonia brass section led by trombonist Philip White worked in all four music services over a number of sessions to:
- Develop brass ensemble playing
- Develop brass playing technique
- Tackle challenging repertoire, focusing on expression and performance skills
All three projects culminated in high profile performances, playing side-by-side with Philharmonia Brass. Hounslow and Wandsworth young brass players shared the Royal Festival Hall stage with internationally famous trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger as part of the Philharmonia’s The Trumpet Shall Sound series. Essex brass players joined Philharmonia Brass on stage at Chelmsford Civic Theatre and Gloucestershire brass players at the Stroud Subscriptions Rooms, both conducted by former Principal Trumpeter of the Philharmonia, John Wallace.
These projects were delivered with the support of Orchestras Live, Essex Music Hub, Gloucestershire Music Hub, Hounslow Music Service and Wandsworth Schools’ Music
