Strike A Chord!
In partnership with The Octagon Theatre in Yeovil, Strike a Chord! explores creative music making in the classroom alongside the Orchestra’s appearance on the concert platform, as well as offering hundreds of school children from across Yeovil the opportunity to hear quality live music in a fun and interactive way.
In the first year of the project, Strike a Chord! was inspired by the work of Roald Dahl, and had the following key features:
- A specialist music educator and a quintet of Philharmonia musicians worked with Year 5 children in Yeovil schools to create, compose and perform their own music.
- These sessions were followed by specially curated school visits from composer Paul Patterson and conductor Charles Hazlewood
- A bespoke schools concert featuring the full symphony orchestra performance of Paul Patterson’s Little Red Riding Hood conducted by Charles Hazlewood, including an audience participation element.
- Teacher training sessions, equipping teachers with the skills to maximise the workshops and concert experience for their pupils.
