Series

The Revolution in which Lenin and his Bolshevik Party took power in Russia in 1917 was one of the defining events of the 20th century. It set in motion a global political earthquake and ripped apart the social fabric of Russia, affecting the lives and music of all Russian composers. One hundred years later, our Conductor Laureate, Vladimir Ashkenazy, explores the music of an extraordinary period. He brings to the podium first-hand experience of a musician’s life first in Soviet Russia, then in self-imposed exile.
