The Philharmonia Orchestra presents six concerts a season at the Bedford Corn Exchange, where it has been resident since 1995.

In 2016/17, the Orchestra performs some of the greatest and most enduring works in the classical canon – Beethoven’s Fifth, Elgar’s Cello Concerto and music from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker – alongside a new programme of music for strings led by our Concert Master Zsolt-Tihamér Visontay.

As ever, our roster of guest artists features both British and international talent, from former BBC Young Musician of the Year winner, cellist Natalie Clein, to exciting Finnish maestro Santtu-Matias Rouvali (“Definitely a conductor of whom to hear more” - The Guardian).

The Philharmonia continues to offer opportunities for people of all ages to experience orchestral music in new ways – or indeed for the first time. Hear and Now provides a snapshot of the work that goes on in and around Bedford. ‘Hear and Now presents Nonsense Songs’, the project’s 2013 incarnation, was the winner of the Music for Bedford Borough Hub's inaugural ‘Music Hub Gala Awards’ in the Community Hub Music Award category. This season, the Orchestra’s schools concert series, Orchestra Unwrapped, comes to the Corn Exchange for the first time.

The Philharmonia’s 2016/17 season has been made possible thanks to the support of the newly formed Philharmonia Orchestra Bedford Trust, and its major partners Arts Council England, Bedford Borough Council and the Harpur Trust.
