The Philharmonia Orchestra presents around 7 concerts a season at the Bedford Corn Exchange since its residency started in 1995.

The Orchestra brings to Bedford many of its successful London projects, including in the 2015/16 season, the exciting Philharmonia at the Movies series, this year returning with Charlie Chaplin on Screen featuring everyone's favourite little tramp character. This season also sees two of the Philharmonia principals, Samuel Coles (principal flute) and Mark van de Wiel (principal clarinet) swap their orchestral seats for centre stage, showcasing the Mozart Concerto for Flute and Harp and Nielsen's Clarinet Concerto.

Aside from the concerts, the residency involves the Orchestra being a valued part of music-making in the area. Our work with people of all ages and backgrounds through the advent of workshops and concerts for children is fundamental to the Orchestra's mission. Hear and Now provides a snapshot of the work that goes on in and around Bedford. ‘Hear and Now presents Nonsense Songs’, the project’s 2013 incarnation, was the winner of the Music for Bedford Borough Hub's inaugural ‘Music Hub Gala Awards’ in the Community Hub Music Award category.
